Houston, Texas – A man was killed on Wednesday in a hit-and-run accident in Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

The deadly accident happened around 6:20 p.m., May 1, in the 600 block of East Loop South (East Interstate Highway 610 South).

Police said a man was walking on the shoulder of the freeway when a silver Mazda CX5 veered into the shoulder and struck him.

The man was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

The Mazda driver, Alma Alicia Zavala, 32, fled the scene and was stopped by several witnesses, not far from the crash scene. She was not intoxicated at the time of the accident. She has been charged with failure to stop and render aid

The police are investigating the crash.
