Houston, TX – The Houston Police Department is investigating a deadly traffic collision involving a car and an 18-wheeler on South State Highway 288 in Houston early Saturday.

The deadly crash happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 13000 South Freeway.

According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Richards, a man was driving a red Chevrolet Corvette southbound on Highway 188 and struck an 18-wheeler Freightliner truck, also heading southbound.

Sergeant J. Richards said the Chevrolet went underneath the 18-wheeler and slammed into a retaining wall on the freeway.

Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the Chevrolet deceased at the scene.

The identity of the victim was not released pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Investigators believed the Chevrolet was driving at a high rate of speed before the collision.

The female driver of the 8-wheeler sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics transported her to an area hospital for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.
