Potter County, TX – The person who died after two vehicles collidedd head-on on Highway 136 near Amarillo Monday morning has been identified as Matthew Handlon, 32, of Amarillo. One person was critiaclly injured in the incident.

The collision happened at about 9:51 a.m. on Highway 136 about half a mile south of FM Road 293.

According to the DPS, a 2020 Ford Transit van, operated by Matthew Handlon, 32, of Amarillo, was traveling  southbound on Highway 136, while a 2021 Ford Transit van was northbound on the same highway. Due to a suspected medical episode involving the driver, DPS said, the 2020 Ford veered into the ooposite lane and collided head-on with the 2021 Ford head-on.

Handlon sustaiend fatal injuries and was pronounced dead  at the scene by Potter County Justice of the Peace Debbie Horn.

The second driver, also an Amarillo resident, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.

According DPS, two vans traveling on Highway 136 on Monday about a half mile south of 293. At some point, one of vans traveling southbound reportedly traveled into oncoming traffice lane and collided head-on with the northbound van.

Authorities say one person died in the collision and another was critically injured.

The name of victim was not immediately released.

All lanes of Highway 136 have been shut down as crews and first responders work to clear the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
