DPS said the fatal collision happened at about 6:35 a.m. on January 9 at the overpass of State Highway 349 and State Highway 158.

Midland, TX – A 57-year-old Odessa man, identified as Richard Allen Howell, was killed in a three-vehicle collision at an overpass in Midland Thursday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS said the fatal collision happened at about 6:35 a.m. on January 9 at the overpass of State Highway 349 and State Highway 158.
Troopers said a 2020 Kenworth with a towed trailer was traveling westbound on SH 349 while a 2022 Ram 1500 and a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado were traveling eastbound on SH 349.
The Kenworth, which investigators say was going at unsafe speed for the icy conditions, veered into the eastbound lane and collided with the Ram and the Silverado at the overpass bridge.
The driver of the Silverado, later identified as Richard Howell, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to DPS.
The driver of the Silverado was identified as Adrian Mathew Armendariz, 32, of Odessa while the driver of the Kenwort was identified as Sheniel Nicholas Samuels, 27, of Columbus, Ohio.
Additionally, DPS advised a 2020 Kenworth with a towed trailer was traveling westbound on SH 349. A 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2022 Ram 1500 were traveling eastbound on SH 349.
