Irving, TX – An off-duty Irving police officer, identified as 38-year-old Jerom Scholz, was killed after colliding with a vehicle on Valley View Lane in Irving on Friday afternoon.
According to the Irving Police Department, the accident happened at about 4:40 p.m. in the 7800 block of Valley View Lane at Interstate 635.
IPD Officer Jerome Scholz Dies in Valley View Lane Accident
Police said Officer Jerome Scholz was hit in the incident. Scholz was taken to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries about an hour later.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the other driver failed to yield to the right-of-way to the off-duty motorcycle officer while turning and struck the motorcycle.
Reportedly, Scholz was a 5-year veteran of IPD. Before joining the department, he served in the US Army,
