Baytown, TX – The officer who was injured last Thursday in a two-vehicle collision that left several other people, including children, injured in Baytown has been identified as Michael Hightower, according to the police.
The collision was reported around 7:10 p.m. on October 23 at the intersection of West Baker Road and Country Club Drive.
Police said Officer Hightower was in a marked patrol vehicle and was responding to a weapons call when he collided with a 2023 Honda Odyssey.
Witnesses said the officer had a green light and the right of way.
Officer Hightower was airlifted to the hospital with a leg injury. He has since been released. He is a two-and-a-half-year veteran with the department.
The driver of the Honda and three children in the vehicle were treated at the scene. The children, ages 16, 14, and 3, were hospitalized.
Two boys, ages 8 and 10, in the Honda were airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. According to a GoFundMe page, the boys have no brain activity.
The Baytown Police Department and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the accident.

The officer and two children who were inside the van were flown to an area hospital with unknown injuries.
The driver of the van and his other passengers were treated at the scene and released.
