Montague County, TX – A major two-vehicle collision along Highway 81 in Montague County on Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of one person, according to Texas DPS.

The accident happened on October 15, 2024, on Highway 81 near Moody Road just north of Ringgold.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a semi truck-tractor and a passenger car were involved in the collision.

Two people were transported to different hospitals following the accident. Authorities confirmed that one of the patients died in the hospital.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.

DPS said Highway 81 north of Ringgold was closed in both directions as emergency personnel worked the scene, with traffic being diverted from the area.

The accident remains under investigation.
