Ricardo Resendez died in a crash that occurred on Canal Street near Live Oak Street, about a block from where he lived

Houston, TX – A 28-year-old man, identified as Ricardo Resendez is dead following a traffic collision involving a Precinct 6 constable who was driving the wrong way in Houston Saturday afternoon, according to a police report.
The deadly accident happened at about 1:30 p.m. on August 24, 2024, on Canal Street near Live Oak Street in Houston’s Second Ward.
According to the Houston Police Department, a preliminary investigation indicates that a driver, identified as a Precinct 6 deputy constable, Rigo Vivar, had been driving on the wrong side of Canal Street when he struck a vehicle operated by Ricardo Resendez.

Resendez, who family members say lived about a block from the accident scene, was killed in the crash.
Further investigation, according to Harris County Precinct 6 internal affairs, showed that Vivar was on his way to work in his personal vehicle and was in uniform at the time of the collision.
Reports indicate that the deputy constable has been terminated and investigation into the incident is underway.
