Sherman, TX – The Texas DPS has identified the victim of a traffic collision on Highway 82 in Sherman Thursday evening as 8-year-old River Rhoades of Lynchburg, Missouri.
Authorities said 47-year-old Robert Rhoades, of Lynchburg, Missouri, was westbound on Highway 82 when he rear-ended a westbound semi-truck near Bethany Road just before sundown on January 2.
Robert’s passenger, later identified as River Rhoades, was pronounced dead at the scene. Robert was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The semi-truck driver was not hurt.

Sherman, TX – One person is dead following a three-vehicle traffic collision on Highway 82 in Sherman, Thursday evening, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The accident happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 82 near Bethany Road on January 2, 2025, and involved two semi-trucks and a passenger vehicle
DPS said at least one person was killed in the collision.
DPS said all westbound lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours due to the collision.
No additional information was provided. The incident remains under investigation.
