Robert Dennis and Mary Dennis Killed in Hale County Collision on US Highway 70

The double fatal accident happened at about 4:58 p.m. December 28 near the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 and FM 179 east of Olton, DPS said in a statement.

Hale County, TX – An Olton couple, identified as Robert Curtis Dennis, 96, and Mary Hatley Dennis, 89, was killed in a traffic collision involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer in Hale County Saturday evening, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The double fatal accident happened at about 4:58 p.m. December 28 near the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 and FM 179 east of Olton, DPS said in a statement.

Troopers said Robert Dennis was driving a 2022 Chevrolet pickup northbound on FM Road 179, approaching the intersection with U.S. 70. At the same time, a 1997 Peterbilt truck tractor hauling a semi-trailer, operated by a 26-year-old Oklahoma man, was traveling eastbound on Highway 70.

Robert turned left onto U.S. 70, failing to yield the right of way to the Peterbilt. The Peterbilt truck struck the driver’s side of the pickup. Robert Dennis and his passenger Mary Dennis were pronounced dead at the scene

The Oklahoma man was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation.
