Sergio Valdez Killed in Midland Pedestrian Accident on Florida Avenue near La Cantina; Danny Rodriguez Arrested
Midland, Texas – A man has been arrested in connection to the hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian dead and another injured on May 27 in Midland, according to the Midland Police Department.
The accident happened around 1:50 a.m., in the 200 block of E. Florida Avenue outside of La Cantina.
Police said a physical altercation broke out in the parking lot and spilled into the nearby eastbound lanes. Two pedestrians were struck by an eastbound midsize maroon Cadillac SUV in the outside lane.
The SUV driver, 36-year-old Danny Paul Rodriguez, fled the scene and turned northbound after the accident.
One of the pedestrians was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the other was taken to the hospital in stable condition. One of the pedestrians, Sergio Alejandro Regino Valdez, 20, later died.
Rodriguez was later arrested for an accident involving death and accident involving serious bodily injury.
The police are investigating the crash.
