Kingwood, TX – A man has been arrested in connection with the DWI accident that left an elderly couple dead Sunday evening in Kingwood, according to the Houston Police Department.

John Nathan Dool, 40, was arrested and charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.

The fatal collision occurred around 5:45 p.m. on July 13 in the 1700 block of West Lake Houston Parkway at the intersection with Magnolia Cove Drive.

Police said Dool was driving a pickup truck westbound on West Lake Houston Parkway at a high rate of speed while an SUV was traveling northbound on Magnolia Cove and had stopped at the stop sign.

As the SUV pulled out of the stop sign, it was hit by the pickup truck. The pickup pushed the SUV for several feet.

The pickup truck ended up hitting a pole, and it landed on its side.

The occupants of the SUV, 60-year-old Curtis Van Diest and 66-year-old Catherine Van Diest, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Dool was taken to the hospital in stable condition. He was found to be impaired and was charged.

The police are investigating the accident.
