Pilot Knob, TX – A man has been charged in connection with the two-vehicle collision that left a 4-year-old dead earlier this month in Pilot Knob, according to the Texas DPS.
The fatal collision happened around 1:40 p.m. on July 11 at the intersection of U.S. 183 and FM 812, southeast of the Austin airport.
DPS said 66-year-old David Reynoso Jaimes was driving a gray Dodge Nitro and was fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run at U.S. 183 and William Cannon Drive. He approached the intersection of U.S. 183 and FM 812 at a high rate of speed and used the right turn-only lane to pass traffic, which was backed up.
Jaimes did not slow down and continued through the grassy median, which separates the right turn lane from traffic on FM 812. As he drove down the median, he hit a red Mitsubishi Lancer that was stopped at a red light.
A 4-year-old in the backseat of the Mitsubishi was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jaimes and the driver of the Mitsubishi were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Jaimes was booked into the Travis County Jail on July 17 and charged with manslaughter, a second-degree felony. He was being held on a $100,000 bond.
An investigation is underway.
