Lufkin, Texas (May 4, 2020) – A man was killed, and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Lufkin, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 3:10 p.m. April 29, on state Highway 103, just east of Marions Ferry Road.

DPS said John Caleb McCarty, 24, of Lufkin, was driving a 2018 Chevrolet pickup eastbound while James Bray, 77, of San Augustine, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet pickup westbound.

For unknown reasons, Bray drove off the roadway to the right, drove through the ditch, and then re-entered the roadway where he crossed over the eastbound lane and hit McCarty’s Chevrolet.

Bray was pronounced dead at the scene.

McCarty and a passenger were taken to Woodland Heights Medical Center for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of James Bray.
