Rhome, TX – A boy was killed, and his grandmother was injured last Thursday in a multi-car collision in Rhome, according to the police.

The fatal collision happened on January 22 at the intersection of Highway 114 and Alliance Boulevard.

Police said Ramona Hernandez was driving on the highway and was attempting to turn onto Alliance Boulevard. She had limited vision of oncoming cars due to traffic backup, and her car was hit by a pickup truck. A third vehicle was also involved in the collision.

Ramona sustained a broken hip and a spinal fracture. Her grandson, 8-year-old Matteo Hernandez, who was a passenger in the car, was killed in the accident.

The pickup truck driver was uninjured in the accident.

The driver of the third vehicle, a woman, refused medical attention.

Rhome police are investigating the accident.
