Six People Killed in Hill County Crash on SH-171 Identified
Hill County, TX – The authorities have identified the multiple people who died in a fiery head-on crash on State Highway 171 near Waco on Saturday last week.
The DPS identified the victims as Amanda Fowler, 37, of Hillsboro, Sarah Johnson, 59, of Hillsboro, Marvin Evans, 50, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Sallie Evans Benson, 67, of Fort Worth. Two children, an 8-year-old boy, and a 7-year-old girl, were also killed in the crash.
Fowler, Johson, the two children and another 10-year-old boy who was injured, were in a Ford Van that was hit head-on by Nissan. The Nissan had attempted to pass another vehicle leading to the collision.
Evans and Benson were in the Nissan at the time of the crash. All six victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 10-year-old boy was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Hill County, TX – Six people, including two children, were killed and another child was injured in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon in Hill County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The fatal crash occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. on June 20, 2026, on State Highway 171 near Farm-to-Market Road 3155.
According to DPS, a northbound passenger car attempted to pass another vehicle and entered the opposing lane, where it collided head-on with a southbound van. Both vehicles caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.
As per the DPS, two people in the passenger car died in the crash. Two adults and two children traveling in the van also died in the crash. All six victims were pronounced dead at the scene. A third child who was riding in the van survived the crash and was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of their next of kin.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the deadly collision.
