Two Deputies Among Several Injured in Bexar County Collision at Weider Road and I-35

Bexar County, TX – Several people, including two Bexar County deputies, were injured Saturday night in a traffic collision in Bexar County, according to the authorities.

The collision happened around 10:30 p.m. on September 13 at the intersection of North Weider Road and I-35 North.

Authorities said Matthew David Castilleja, 19, was driving a maroon 2007 BMW 335i on Interstate 35 S and was weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed.

Deputies pursued Castilleja after spotting him committing traffic violations. The chase briefly stopped after deputies lost sight of Castilleja, but it continued when Castilleja passed by again.

Castilleja ran a red light at the intersection, and the deputy’s vehicle collided with a red truck and a blue SUV.

A deputy sustained a cut to his head and a possible concussion, while another deputy sustained minor wrist pain. Both deputies were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Occupants of the red truck and blue SUV sustained minor injuries. Two people from the red truck, including an unrestrained juvenile, were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Castilleja fled the scene, and he was found at a home connected to his girlfriend. He told investigators that he had fled the scene due to fear. He was taken into custody for evading arrest with a vehicle, a third-degree felony, and was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on Sunday, September 14.

The authorities are investigating the accident.
