The deadly collision was first reported at about 2:30 a.m. on January 8 on IH-69 Southwest Freeway at Kirby Drive.

Houston, TX – One person is dead and three others are injured, one critically, following a chain-reaction collision that reportedly involved a driver who jumped off the IH-69 Freeway early Wednesday morning.
The deadly collision was first reported at about 2:30 a.m. on January 8 on IH-69 Southwest Freeway at Kirby Drive.
According to Houston police, the chain-reaction accident started with a single vehicle when a driver struck the barrier on the freeway and the vehicle stopped in the main lanes.
The driver got out of the stalled vehicle. That’s when a second car slammed into the stopped vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle, described as a man in his 40s, died in the collision.
The second vehicle was then hit by a third car, HPD said.
According to HPD, two people in the third car were hospitalized and are expected to be okay.
According to the police, the driver of the first vehicle jumped off the freeway after getting out of his car.
The man was found unresponsive and in critical condition. He was transported to a hospital.
All southbound lanes of the freeway were shut down as officers investigated the incident. The lanes were reopened at about 5:40 a..m.
No additional information is available at this time.
The accident remains under investigation.
