The driver of the Freightliner was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Newton County, TX. – A woman was killed in a car accident that left at least one person injured on Monday afternoon in Newton County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened around 3 p.m. on U.S. Highway 87, south of Trout Creek.
An 85-year-old woman from Orange was driving a 2023 Buick Enclave northbound on the highway and was attempting to make a U-turn when she was hit by a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia towing a 2019 utility trailer.
The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner, 58-year-old Joseph Mwangi of Willis, was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
