Coryell County, TX – One person was killed in a a deadly head-on accident at an intersection in rural Coryell County Thursday morning, according to Texas DPS.

The deadly collision happened at about 4:25 a.m. on September 19 at FM 116 and Lonesome Oak Road.

FM 116 was shut down at Whispering Oaks in both directions Thursday morning as DPS investigated the wreck.

According to DPS, a 2015 GMC Acadia, operated by a 34-year-old male from Copperas Cove was traveling southbound on FM 116. For some reason, the GMC failed to maintain within its lane and crossed into the northbound. The GMC collided head-on with a 2020 Nissan Altima, operated by Manuel Moreno, of Copperas Cove at Lonesome Oak Road

As per the DPS, Moreno was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the GMC was hospitalized for non-incapacitating injuries, the DPS said, adding that initial investigation showed evidence of intoxication.

The incident is under investigation.
