The Texas Department of Public Safety said the fatal two-vehicle accident happened at about 5:43 p.m. Monday, July 29 on Depot Road, north of Mile 17 1⁄2, west of Edinburg.

Edinburg, TX – A man was killed in a fiery two-vehicle traffic collision on Depot Road in Edinburg on Monday evening, according to the  Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to a DPS, the accident happened at about 5:43 p.m. Monday, July 29 on Depot Road, north of Mile 17 1⁄2, west of Edinburg.

According to the DPS report a preliminary investigation showed a maroon Ford F-150 that was traveling northbound on Depot Road, while a red Toyota FJ Cruiser was traveling southbound on the same road.

For unknown reasons, DPS says, the Ford veered into the southbound lane of Depot Road and collided with the Toyota.

The Ford truck caught fire with the driver pinned inside.

The driver Identified as Jose Luis Loredo, 79, of McAllen sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Jose Loredo was burned “beyond recognition”.

The driver and the sole occupant of the Toyota, identified only as a female, was transported to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg with non-life-threatening injuries.

No additional details regarding the crash were provided.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the fatal accident.
