Edinburg, TX – Two people were killed in a collision that took place in Edinburg early Monday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The two-vehicle collision happened on U.S. 281 at about 2:38 a.m.
According to the DPS, a white Chevrolet Malibu was traveling northbound on southbound U.S. 281 when a southbound white Chevrolet Colorado swerved off the roadway to avoid the Malibu.
The Colorado rolled over on the side of the roadway.
A southbound black Hyundai Tucson then slammed into the Malibu.
The impact caused the Malibu to spin across the southbound lanes and it was hit by a white Freightliner tractor-trailer.
The occupants of the Malibu, identified as Mark Anthony Alvarez, 32, and his son John Andrew Escamilla, both of Pharr, were both rushed to DHR Health, where they were both pronounced deceased.
Authorities reported that Escamilla was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Malibu was rushed to DHR Health with critical injuries.
The two occupants of the Colorado were transported to a hospital and were said to be in stable condition.
The accident is under investigation.
