Rio Hondo, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the driver who died after colliding with another vehicle on Sam Houston Boulevard Friday night as 18-year-old Jose Juan Mendoza of Rio Hondo.
According to the DPS, Jose Mendoza was driving a silver Toyota southbound on Sam Houston Boulevard when a black Dodge Caravan attempted to make a left turn into a residence off North Sam Houston Boulevard and the two vehicles collided.
The incident happened at about 8:30 p.m. on August 30 near Weisman Road.
Mendoza was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center where he later died. The driver and passenger of the Caravan were also transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rio Hondo, TX – One man was killed and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle collision in Rio Hondo Friday night, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release.
The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. on August 30 on North Sam Houston Boulevard north of Wiesman Road, as per the Texas DPS.
DPS said a preliminary investigation revealed that a black Dodge Caravan, occupied by a male driver and a female passenger, attempted to make a left turn into a residence off North Sam Houston Boulevard when it collided with a silver Toyota that was traveling southbound on Sam Houston Boulevard.

The driver and passenger of the Dodge were transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Toyota was also transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center where he died.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
