Several injured in multi-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 69 in Tyler County
Tyler County, TX. – A woman and a teenager were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a car accident that happened on Thursday evening in Woodville.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened on U.S. Highway 69 at around 5 p.m.
A 1998 Dodge passenger car reportedly collided with a 2002 Chevrolet pickup traveling north.
The impact of the collision caused the Dodge to veer into the oncoming lane and was struck by a 2021 Ford SUV that was traveling south.
After the collision, the Ford traveled across the west side of the road and struck a 2015 Toyota Tacoma, which was exiting a parking lot.
58-year-old Maria Portillo, of Hillister, was driving the Dodge and was transported to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital in critical condition. Her passenger, a 16-year-old female, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 61-year-old Donnie Releford of Doucette, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ford, 54-year-old Karina Dawson of Chester, was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, 60-year-old Hector Espino of Chester, was taken to Tyler County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
More details about the accident were not released.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
