Coy Crowder Killed in Armstrong County Two-Vehicle Crash on US 287

Armstrong County, Texas (March 21, 2022) – A Tennessee man was killed early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Armstrong County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 1:40 a.m., March 20, on US 287, about 17 miles east of Claude.

DPS said Tyler Ebbitt, 30, of Hughes Springs, was driving a 2020 Freightliner truck tractor towing a semi-trailer and was exiting a rest area on US 287 eastbound and trying to merge onto the main roadway. Coy Crowder, 41, of Nashville, Tennessee, was driving a 2022 Chrysler 300 eastbound in the outside lane of the highway.

Ebbitt merged into the outside lane, failed to yield the right-of-way to the Chrysler, causing the Chrysler to hit the landing gear of the semi-trailer.

The Chrysler overturned and entered the center median, ejecting Crowder. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ebbitt was uninjured in the crash.

The Texas Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
