Kirbyville, TX – One person is dead and another injured following a two-vehicle traffic collision on Highway 96 near Kirbyville Thursday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The deadly collision occurred shortly before 9:00 on Highway 96 near County Road 619, just south of Kirbyville.

DPS said a 2017 Hino box truck, operated by 61-year-old Mikal Jenkins, of Beaumont, was traveling northbound 96 when it rear-ended a 2013 Chevrolet Impala operated by 76-year-old Marcellus Davis, of Kirbyville.

The impact sent both vehicles off of the highway and the Chevrolet struck a tree.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jenkins was taken by ambulance to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation and no additional details are available at this time.
