3 Injured, 1 Critically, in Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 79 in Leon County
Leon County, TX – One person suffered critical injuries, and two others were hurt following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 79 in Leon County early Friday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 6:10 a.m. on Highway 79 between Oakwood and Buffalo.
Investigators said a 2023 Dodge ProMaster van traveling westbound on Highway 79 attempted to pass in a no-passing zone and collided front-left to front-left with a 2018 Ford F-350 traveling eastbound.
The driver of the Dodge van sustained suspected critical injuries and was transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center for treatment. Authorities said two occupants inside the Ford, including the driver and a passenger, also suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening and were transported to the same hospital. No arrests were reported.
According to DPS, the Dodge driver’s attempt to pass in a no-passing zone is believed to have contributed to the Leon County crash.
The Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and first responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collision was reported and conducted an on-scene investigation.
The crash caused traffic disruptions along Highway 79 while emergency crews worked at the scene, and the roadway was later cleared and reopened.
The incident remains under investigation.
