Farewell, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety had identified a man killed in a multi-vehicle collision Friday mid-morning as 71-year-old Steven Ellard from Amarillo.
The crash happened at around 11:30 a.m. on March 14 on State Route 60.
Investigators determined that a 2000 Peterbilt truck tractor and semi-trailer had stopped partially on the roadway after being involved in a previous collision.
The incident remains under investigation.
As the driver attempted to move the vehicle off the road, a 2011 GMC Sierra struck the rear of the trailer. A 2008 Chrysler 3XL then collided with the back left end of the semi-trailer.
The GMC Sierra driver, Ellard, was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene.
Neither the truck’s driver, 51-year-old Byron Franklin of Hennessey, Oklahoma, nor the Chrysler’s driver, 36-year-old Matthew Trujillo-Castillo of Friona, were injured.
