Ariel Spidell Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on US 87 in Moore County

Ariel Spidell Killed, Jennifer Van Butsel Seriously Injured in Moore County Two-Vehicle Crash on US 87

Moore County, Texas (December 15, 2019) – One person was killed, and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Moore County, south of Dumas, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 1:35 p.m. on December 13, on US 87.

DPS said Misti Ivins, 43, of Sunray, was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Passat southbound in the right lane while Ariel Spidell, 23, of Dalhart, was also driving a 1999 Ford Explorer southbound in the right lane.

Spidell legally passed the Passat in the left lane and then safely changed lanes in front of the Passat.

Spidell’s then slowed and was rear-ended by the Passat.

The impact caused Spidell to lose control, travel into the center median, and rollover.

Spidell was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Spidell’s car, Jennifer Van Butsel, 48, of Dalhart, was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock with serious injuries.

Ivins was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
