Jenna Bird Killed in 2-Vehicle Accident on FM 1379 in Midland

Jenna Bird ID’d as Greenwood Student Killed in Midland Car Accident on Farm-to-Market Road 1379 and State Highway 158

Midland, Texas (August 21, 2019) – The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the 15-year-old Greenwood High School sophomore who was killed Monday morning in a traffic accident involving two vehicles in Midland.

Jenna Bird died in the wreck that occurred at about 7:00 a.m. Monday, August 19 near the intersection of Farm-to-Market 1379 and Highway 158, 12 miles east of Midland.

According to the DPS report, a Ford F-250 driven by a 49-year-old Odessa man, was traveling eastbound on Highway 158 while a Hyundai Accent driven by Bird, was stopped on FM 1379 at the intersection facing north.

Bird tried to make a left turn onto Highway 158 and failed to yield the right of way. The Hyundai collided with the Ford.

Bird was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a member of the school’s volleyball team.

Bird’s 44-year-old mother and 12-year-old sister were passengers in the Hyundai. Her mother was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital where she was put in an intensive care unit.  Her sister, who attends Brooks Middle School, was taken to the hospital for observation and was released late Monday night.

The driver of the pickup was uninjured.

Bird, her passengers and the other driver all were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
