Marcelina Castillo Killed in Garciasville Pedestrian Accident on U.S. 83 near FM 1430; Yesenia Garza Arrested

Garciasville, Texas (December 14, 2021) – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Saturday in Garciasville, according to the authorities.

The deadly accident happened on December 11, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and FM 1430.

Authorities said Marcelina Alfaro Castillo, 55, of Garciasville, was walking near the intersection when she was struck by a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the accident.

Castillo was killed in the crash.

A DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop around 7:48 p.m., December 11, on a white Jeep that had a defective front right headlight and damage to the front of the vehicle. The trooper determined the vehicle was involved in a crash and that the driver had left the scene.

The driver of the Jeep was taken to the Rio Grande Highway Patrol Office for further investigation.

The Starr County Sheriff’s Office was alerted of the auto-pedestrian crash shortly after, and they determined that the driver, Yesenia Garza, 48, of Garciasville, was involved in the hit-and-run crash.

Garza was arrested and has been charged with failure to stop/leave the scene of an accident involving death.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
