Oldham County, Texas – Two people were killed and four others were injured Friday afternoon in a fiery multi-vehicle crash in Oldham County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 1:20 p.m., on April 12, on Interstate 40, four miles east of Adrian.

DPS said Paul Espinoza, 38, of Phoenix, Arizona was driving a semi-truck westbound when he veered into the left lane and hit an Audi TT, pushing it across the center median and into the eastbound lanes.

The driver of an eastbound semi-truck swerved, but could not miss Espinoza’s semi-truck.

Espinoza’s semi-truck pushed the Audi TT into the left side of the other big rig’s trailer. He also hit the left side of the other big rig’s trailer, before crashing head-on into a third semi-truck.

Those two semis and the Audi TT all caught on fire.

A tire from one of the vehicles hit an ambulance from Lubbock.

Espinoza and the driver of the third semi, Artoosh Amirjanian, 61, of Glendale, California, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Audi TT driver, James Dow, 66, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo. His passenger, Ann Dow, 69, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was taken by ambulance to Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries.

Two people in the ambulance, Ester Metcalf, 22, of Lubbock, and Michelle Corrales, 50, of Lubbock, were transported to Northwest Texas Hospital with minor injuries where they were treated and released.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
