Pedestrian Killed in DUI Crash on South Lamar in Austin; Rene Conde Charged

One Killed in Austin Pedestrian Accident on South Lamar; Rene Conde Charged

Austin, Texas (August 26, 2020) – According to a local news source, one person was killed in a pedestrian accident on Sunday in South Austin.

The deadly accident happened on August 23, in the 3900 block of South Lamar.

According to the report, 57-year-old Rene Conde was driving at a high rate of speed when he swerved to avoid a stopped vehicle, drove onto a median and struck a pedestrian, a street sign, and the base of a traffic control device pole.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released.

Conde was taken to the hospital. He admitted to smoking kush, a synthetic marijuana, before the crash. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter, which is a second-degree felony.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
