Two Teen Sisters Critically Injured in San Antonio Pedestrian Accident on Dugas Drive; Woman Arrested

San Antonio, Texas (September 4, 2021) – Two teen sisters were critically injured Friday morning after being hit by an intoxicated driver in San Antonio, according to officials.

The accident happened around 7:45 a.m., September 3, in the 10200 block of Dugas Drive.

Officials said the girls were walking on their way to Stevens High School when an SUV jumped the sidewalk and ran over them.

The SUV pinned the girls beneath the vehicle.

The victims were taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

The SUV driver, a woman, remained at the scene after the accident. She was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

An investigation is underway.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.
