2 Killed in 3-Vehicle Crash on Highway 79 in Panola County

Two Killed in Panola County Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 79

Panola County, Texas (January 31, 2021)According to the DPS, two people were killed in a three-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Panola County.

The fatal crash happened around 7:00 a.m., on US 79, between FM 1186 and FM 31, about 11 miles north of Carthage.

Authorities said two 18-wheelers were involved in a head-on collision on the highway. Another vehicle was also involved in the collision.

One of the 18-wheeler drivers had to be extricated and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Officers said a third person was struck as a result of the crash and was not in a vehicle.

A second person was also killed in the crash.

The crash closed the highway for several hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
