Bicyclist Killed in Crash on Scottcrest Drive in Houston; John Washington Arrested

62-Year-Old Man Killed in Houston Bicycle Accident on Scottcrest Drive; John Washington Arrested

Houston, Texas (October 18, 2023) – According to the police, a 62-year-old man died on Monday after being involved in a bicycle accident in Houston.

The deadly accident happened around 6:15 p.m., on Saturday, October 14, in the 5900 block of Scottcrest Drive at the intersection of Old Spanish Trail.

Police said John Washington, 66, was driving a red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck northbound on Scottcrest when he crossed Old Spanish Trail and crashed into a bicyclist who was riding eastbound in the 3900 block of Old Spanish Trail, against a red light.

Witnesses told investigators that Washington’s truck had a green light at the intersection. He remained at the scene until the authorities arrived.

The bicyclist was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on October 16. His name has not been released.

Washington was evaluated and determined to be impaired and charged with driving while intoxicated. He was booked into the Harris County Jail.

The crash remains under investigation.
