Brandon Fountain Killed in Panola County Three-Vehicle Crash on US 79

Panola County, Texas (May 8, 2021) – One person was killed Thursday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Panola County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 1:16 p.m., May 6, on US 79 N, three miles east of the city of Carthage.

DPS said a 2014 Volvo truck towing a semi-trailer was traveling northbound on the highway while a 2019 Ford F-550 was traveling southbound.

For unknown reasons, the Ford drifted into the northbound lanes and crashed head-on into the Volvo.

A northbound 2001 Freightliner towing a semi-trailer swerved to avoid the crash but was unable to. It rolled the Freightliner and the towed trailer to its side.

The Ford driver, Brandon Cole Fountain, 21, of Henderson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Volvo driver, Kenneth Johnson, 65, of Missouri City, was uninjured in the crash.

The Freightliner driver, Gregory Miller, 51, of Houston, was also uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
