Benjamin, Texas (July 21, 2023) – According to a local news source, one person was killed Thursday morning in a fiery two-vehicle crash 10 miles west of Benjamin.

The fatal crash happened around 6:00 a.m., July 20, on US 82.

According to the report, a Hyundai was traveling eastbound on the highway at a high rate of speed while a Dodge was exiting a private drive onto the road at a slower speed in front of the Hyundai.

The Hyundai driver said the Dodge was being driven without lights, and he failed to control the speed of the vehicle, causing the Hyundai to rear-end the Dodge.

Both vehicles caught fire after the collision.

The Dodge driver, 72-year-old Candido Uribe from Benjamin, was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Hyundai driver was able to exit the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
