David Eugene Strickler Killed in Jefferson County School Bus Crash on U.S. Highway 90

Jefferson County, Texas (April 6, 2021) – According to the Texas DPS, one person was killed Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus in Jefferson County, west of China.

The deadly crash happened around 7:15 a.m., April 5, in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 90, near McDermitt Road.

DPS said a Hardin-Jefferson Independent School District school bus was traveling eastbound on the highway and was being followed by a Dodge minivan.

The school bus slowed down to turn right onto McDermitt Road and was rear-ended by the minivan.

The minivan became wedged beneath the back left side of the bus.

The minivan driver, David Eugene Strickler, 56, of Biloxi, Mississippi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

None of the 11 students on board the bus were injured in the crash.

The school bus driver was taken to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont for treatment.

The crash closed the eastbound lanes of the highway.

The crash remains under investigation.
