San Marcos, Texas (September 9, 2020) – A man was killed in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon in San Marcos, according to police.

The fatal crash happened around 1:00 p.m., September 6, on West Wonder World Drive at the Purgatory Creek Bridge.

Police said a 2011 Ford F-250 was traveling westbound in the left lane when it drifted to the right and side-swiped a Nissan Rogue. The Ford then drifted back to the left, crossed the center double-yellow stripe, and crashed head-on into a 2020 Ford F-150, a Chevrolet Silverado, a 2018 Mazda CX9, and a 2012 Nissan Altima.

The driver of the 2020 Ford F-150, David Hollinbeck, 61, of San Antonio, was killed in the crash.

Investigators said alcohol might have been a factor for the driver of the 2011 Ford F-250.

The authorities are investigating the crash.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of David Hollinbeck.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
