Donald Jay Mires Killed in Motorcycle Crash on SH-195 in Killeen

59-Year-Old Donald Jay Mires Killed in Killeen Motorcycle Crash on State Highway 195

Killeen, Texas (March 6, 2020) – A motorcyclist was killed after he rear-ended a car Tuesday afternoon in Killeen, according to the police.

The accident happened on Tuesday, March 3, in the 13100 block of South State Highway 195.

Police said a white Toyota Prius was traveling southbound on the highway when the driver saw a 31-year-old man who was attempting to cross the southbound lanes. The driver slowed down as the man changed directions to go back towards the shoulder of the roadway.

The Toyota was then rear-ended by a black 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle ridden by 59-year-old Donald Jay Mires.

The force of the impact ejected Mires from his motorcycle. He was flown to Baylor Scott and White Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he died on Thursday afternoon.

The pedestrian was taken into custody and charged with Public Intoxication and Pedestrian Failure to Yield Right of Way to a Vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Donald Jay Mires.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases, the accident results in death.
