Fadi Kathawa Killed, Lester Brown Injured in Hopkins County Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 30

Hopkins County, Texas (March 11, 2022) – One person was killed, and another was injured Wednesday night in a big rig crash in Hopkins County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 11:00 p.m., March 9, on Interstate 30, about seven miles east of Sulphur Springs.

DPS said Fadi Kathawa, 29, of Michigan, was driving a 2016 Freightliner truck tractor towing a trailer eastbound on the interstate when he veered off the interstate and struck a guardrail. The truck tractor and its trailer rolled over across the eastbound lanes and where it was struck by a 2008 International truck tractor towing a trailer.

Kathawa was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the International truck, Lester Brown, 33, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was treated and released.

The crash closed several lanes of the interstate, but they have since been reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
