Hector Gonzales and DeEtta Haynie Killed, Frank Leggett Injured in Comal County Motorcycle Crash on FM 306 near Purgatory Road

Comal County, Texas (October 12, 2021) – Three people were killed, and another was injured Friday evening in a motorcycle crash in Comal County, according to the authorities.

The deadly accident happened just after 6:00 p.m., October 8, in the 9600 block of FM 306, west of the Purgatory Road.

Authorities said Jacob Daniel Morris, 27, of La Vernia, was riding a 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound while Hector Juan Gonzales, 29, of Devine, was riding a 2020 Harley-Davidson motorcycle also eastbound.

Both Morris and Gonzales failed to negotiate a curve, possibly due to unsafe speed and lost control of their motorcycles.

Morris slid off the roadway and struck a tree while Gonzales slid into the westbound lane and was struck by a 2000 Ford F-250 pickup, driven by Frank Thomas Leggett, 62, of Trenton, Missouri.

Morris and Gonzales were pronounced dead at the scene.

Leggett was taken to Seton Hays in Kyle with non-life-threatening injuries. His passenger, DeEtta Kay Haynie, 68, also of Trenton, Missouri, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Seton Hays in Kyle, where she later died.

No other information was provided.

The crash remains under investigation.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws, or statutes which were violated.
