James Baker Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 385 in Castro County

James Baker ID’d as Man Killed in Castro County Crash on U.S. 385 near Dimmitt

Castro County, Texas (May 4, 2022) – Authorities have identified the man who died Tuesday morning following a four-vehicle crash in Castro County as James Baker, 75, of Dimmitt.

The deadly accident happened at around 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, on U.S. 385, approximately six miles north of Dimmitt.

According to authorities, Baker was driving a Chevrolet Silverado northbound on U.S. 385 in a construction zone when he failed to control speed and hit a stopped For Expedition, which then spun and crashed into the back of a stopped Lincoln Mark LT.

The Chevrolet Silverado continued northbound and hit a semi-trailer. The impact caused the Chevrolet Silverado to spin around and stop partially on the improved shoulder.

Baker was taken to Hereford Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The drivers of the other vehicles were uninjured.

Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.
