John Mund Killed in Motorcycle Accident on FM 1567 in Hopkins County

John Mund ID’d as Motorcyclist Killed in Hopkins County Crash on FM 1567 and County Road 2435

Hopkins County, Texas (April 22, 2022) – Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who died Thursday morning following a traffic crash near Como in Hopkins County as John Mund, 29, of Sulphur Springs.

The deadly crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. on April 21 at the intersection of FM 1567 and County Road 2435.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Mund was riding a 2021 Harley Davidson Street Glide on FM 1567 while Kale Tifft, 43, of Sulphur Springs, was driving a 2019 Ford F-150 pickup westbound on FM 1567.

Tifft was stopped at the intersection of CR 2435 and FM 1567, and he failed to yield the right of way to Mund’s motorcycle. As a result, the Ford F-150 pickup struck the motorcycle as it entered the intersection.

Mund was declared dead at the scene.

No further details about the crash were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
