Jorge Juarez Killed in Car Crash on I-20 near Merkel

Jorge Juarez Killed in Merkel Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 20

Merkel, Texas (October 29, 2020) – A man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday, just west of Merkel, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around noon, October 27, on Interstate 20.

DPS said Jorge Juarez, 36, of Dallas, was driving a 1999 Cadillac Eldorado westbound on the icy road when he lost control, crossed the center median, and crashed into an eastbound 2019 Volvo truck-tractor pulling a trailer.

Juarez was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The 18-wheeler driver, Kerry Garland, 43, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, and his passenger, Tate Anderson, 49, of Clarkson, Michigan, were uninjured in the crash. They were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
