Hannah Pegues Killed, Jessica Pegues, Adalyn Pegues, and Markie Smith Injured in Hopkins County Three-Vehicle Crash on SH 11 near FM 69

Hopkins County, Texas (April 9, 2022) – One person was killed, and three others were injured Monday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Hopkins County, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 5:22 p.m., April 4, on State Highway 11 near FM 69.

Authorities said Jessica Pegues, 45, of Como, was driving a 2018 Ford F-150 westbound on the highway while Wade Stuart, 48, of Gilmer, was driving a 2016 Ford F-150 that was towing a trailer in front of Jessica’s vehicle.

Jessica failed to control her speed and struck the trailer that was being towed by Stuart. She also struck an eastbound 2020 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Markie Smith, 32, of Como.

The impact caused Jessica’s vehicle to roll over into a bar ditch and catch fire.

Jessica and her daughters, Hannah Pegues, 15, and 9-year-old Adalyn Pegues, were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, where Hannah later died.

Hannah was a student at the Como-Pickton CISD.

Smith was treated and released at the scene.

Stuart was uninjured in the crash.

No additional information was available.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
