Jose Ramirez Killed in San Juan Two-Vehicle Crash on US 281 at FM 2557

San Juan, Texas – A 60-year-old Edinburg man was killed Wednesday night in a two-vehicle crash in San Juan, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 9:30 a.m., January 31, on U.S. 281, west of Farm-to-Market Road 2557 or South Stewart Road.

DPS said Jose Refugio Ramirez was driving a red Chevrolet Uplander and was at a stop sign while a green International Prostar truck towing a silver Truxton Tanker, which was transporting petroleum, was traveling westbound on US 281.

Ramirez failed to yield the right-of-way at the stop sign, tried turning left onto U.S. 281, and crashed into the truck.

Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver was transported to South Texas Health System McAllen with non-life-threatening injuries.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
