Man Struck, Killed by 18-Wheeler on SH 31 in Smith County

Man Killed in Smith County Pedestrian Accident on State Highway 31

Smith County, Texas (January 31, 2021) – A man was struck and killed by an 18-wheeler Friday night in Smith County, according to the Texas DPS.

The deadly accident happened around 11:50 p.m., January 29, on State Highway 31, about 3.5 miles east of Tyler.

According to a preliminary investigation, the man was driving a 2009 Ford Mustang westbound on the highway when it broke down. His vehicle became partially disabled on the highway. As the man was putting gas in the vehicle, a westbound 2013 Mack truck swerved to the left to avoid hitting the Mustang, but it hit the man. The impact knocked the man into a parked 2014 Hyundai Sonata.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
