Maria Rincon and Maximiliano Ortiz Killed in Encinal Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 35

Encinal, Texas (September 28, 2023) – The two people who were killed on Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash two miles north of Encinal have been identified as Maria de Lourdes Rincon, 40, and Maximiliano Ortiz,15, both of Laredo, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 4:00 p.m., September 26, on Interstate 35.

DPS said a 2022 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer and a Ford F-150 were traveling northbound on the interstate. The truck tractor slowed down due to heavy traffic in a construction zone. The F-150 failed to control its speed and rear-ended the semi-trailer.

The F-150 driver, Rincon, and passenger, Ortiz, were pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger in the F-150 was taken to a Laredo hospital in stable condition.

The driver and passenger in the truck tractor were uninjured in the crash.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
